Augmented Camera System for Haulage
Our work with remote control and autonomous operation of equipment is leading us to develop an augmented camera system. The goal is to improve situational awareness for the operator and provide more information than is available with a simple camera system. This system will comprise some features similar to those found in today's most modern automobiles. Object recognition, a top down view of the surroundings, and side facing cameras for turns will give the operator more tools to safely navigate the mining environment without the need for personnel to wear an additional device. This system also aims to make these improvements with less cost than traditional proximity systems.
